Vedanta emerges as the highest bidder for two coal blocks in Odisha

Vedanta Ltd has been declared as the highest bidder for two coal blocks in Odisha, auctioned under the Trance V of commercial coal block auction conducted by Ministry of Coal.

The two coal blocks are viz. Ghogharpalli and its Dip Extension coal block, located in Sundargarh district. The government put on sale 10 coal mines under the commercial coal mine earlier for which e-auction has been conducted on 13 September 2022. The coal block will be the suitable for its Smelter plant in Jharsuguda given its logistical location. The mine has total reserves of 1,288 million tonne and estimated around 20 million tonne capacity per annum. The company expects, once operational, it will provide fuel security, improve power availability by providing uninterrupted power supply and strengthening the company’s aluminium production.
