Odisha Government set to float RfPs for Mahanadi Riverine Port

The Request for Proposals (RfPs) for the proposed riverine port on Mahanadi River at Akhadasali village under Mahakalpada block in Kendrapara district of Odisha will soon be floated.

The state chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday chaired a meeting to issue the RfP for the port. Earlier Request for Qualifications (RfQs) have been floated for the project, wherein four developers qualified. Now, RfPs will be issued to the four developers, viz. Hindustan Ports Private Limited, Adani Ports & SEZ Limit, Essar Port Limited and Navayuga Engineering Company.

The Mahanadi riverine port project will be developed in two phases. In phase-I, two berths to handle 18.41 million tonne per annum (mtpa) cargo will be developed at a cost of Rs 2,110 crore. Later on the cargo transportation capacity will be enhanced to 45.88 mtpa from 18.14 mtpa. The port will be developed on public-private-partnership (PPP) mode on BOOST (build–own–operate-share–transfer) basis.

Around 175 hectare land will be required for the phase-I development, while another 125 hectare will be required for phase-II development. The riverine port will be connected to the NH 5-A (now NH-53) and Haridaspur-Paradip railway line for transportation of cargo.
