OPGCL’s expansion project at Banaharpalli gets MoEF nod

The MoEF has accorded approval to the 2×660 MW expansion of the already operational thermal power plant set up by Orissa Power Generation Corporation (OPGCL), located at Banaharpalli, in Jharsuguda district of Orissa.

The coal requirement, of 6.73 million tonne at 80 per cent plant load factor will be met from the Manoharpur and dip-side of Manoharpur coal blocks in the Ib Valley area, which contains a total reserve of 531 million tonne.

The water requirement of 4,100 cubic mtrs per hour is to be sourced from the Hirakud reservoir, the linkage to which has been accorded by the State Government.
