Himadri Chemicals and Industries is likely to commission the Phase I of its coal-tar distillation plant in Odisha by March 2014.
The company has identified 80 acre for the project. The plant will have a capacity of 3,00,000 tonne. Coal-tar pitch, a residue available from coke-oven batteries in steel plants, is the key raw material used to manufacture aluminium and graphite. Construction work on the project is expected to commence in 2013. Currently, it is awaiting necessary clearances for the project.
The project investment is pegged at Rs 525 crore. However, the Phase I is estimated to cost Rs 290 crore. The Phase I will have 1,50,000 tonne capacity of coal-tar pitch while the Phase II will have similar capacity. The Phase II is likely to be commissioned in March 2016.
